Job Description

Product Owner III

Duration: 12 months
Location: Onsite - Charlotte, NC
  Role Overview
We are seeking a Technical Product Owner (TPO) to support a Platform and Integration team delivering solutions across multiple business areas, systems, and data domains.

This team does not own a single centralized product. Instead, it enables a wide range of initiatives, including:

  • Platform enhancements

  • Application integrations

  • Data pipelines

  • Analytics enablement

  • Operational improvements

In this high-variability environment with shifting priorities, the Technical Product Owner plays a critical role in:

  • Shaping and prioritizing work

  • Facilitating Agile execution

  • Ensuring predictable flow from intake through delivery

This role requires strong technical fluency, execution leadership, and the ability to bring structure to ambiguity.

Key Responsibilities Work Intake & Demand Shaping

  • Serve as the primary intake point for new work requests across business and technical domains

  • Partner with stakeholders to clarify intent, outcomes, urgency, and constraints

  • Evaluate requests for value, risk, feasibility, and alignment with platform standards

  • Determine the appropriate delivery path (platform enhancement, integration, data pipeline, operational fix)

    Backlog Ownership & Prioritization

  • Own and maintain a consolidated backlog across all supported areas

  • Continuously prioritize based on business impact, operational risk, dependencies, and capacity

  • Balance competing demand across:

    • New initiatives

    • Platform investments

    • Technical debt

    • Reliability work

  • Make prioritization trade-offs explicit when demand exceeds capacity

    Planning & Story Development

  • Translate ambiguous requests into clear epics, features, and user stories

  • Partner with the Technical Lead to ensure work is technically sound and execution-ready

  • Ensure stories include:

    • Context

    • Acceptance criteria

    • Non-functional requirements

    • Constraints

  • Identify and document dependencies, risks, assumptions, and unknowns early

  • Drive backlog refinement to reduce ambiguity before sprint entry

    Agile Execution Facilitation

  • Facilitate Agile execution end-to-end from intake through delivery

  • Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives

  • Ensure clear sprint goals, priorities, and commitments

  • Actively manage work-in-progress to prevent overload and thrash

  • Partner with Technical Leads and TPMs to remove blockers and resolve dependencies

  • Apply Agile practices pragmatically—providing structure without unnecessary ceremony

    Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across business, analytics, engineering, and operations

  • Set expectations around scope, sequencing, and delivery timing

  • Communicate priority shifts, risks, and trade-offs proactively

  • Help stakeholders understand platform constraints and integration complexity

    Platform & Integration Focus

  • Own requirements for platform services, APIs, and integrations (not end-user features)

  • Advocate for reusable, scalable solutions serving multiple domains

  • Partner with engineering to define API contracts and integration standards

  • Ensure alignment with architectural direction, security expectations, and operational readiness

    Technical Environment
The Technical Product Owner must be comfortable operating within the following ecosystem:
    Backend & Platform Services

  • Python

  • FastAPI

  • AWS Lambda

  • ECS Fargate

  • Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL)

  • DynamoDB
  • Data & Integration Technologies

  • Kafka (event-driven and streaming systems)
  • Infrastructure & Delivery

  • Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)

  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Analytics & Consumption

  • Qlik

  • Data products and analytics integrations

  • Hands-on development is not required, but strong technical fluency is essential.

    Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, or similar role

  • Proven experience facilitating Agile execution (not just participating in ceremonies)

  • Experience working within platform, integration, or enablement teams

  • Ability to operate effectively in high-variability, high-ambiguity environments

  • Strong skill translating unclear requests into structured, executable work

  • Experience partnering closely with backend, platform, or data engineering teams

  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred / Nice to Have Experience

  • Experience supporting multiple products or business domains simultaneously

  • Familiarity with AWS-based, cloud-native architectures

  • Experience with data platforms or integration-heavy systems

  • Exposure to data warehousing or Redshift-based analytics

  • Experience using Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid Agile models

    Role Alignment & Collaboration

  • The Technical Product Owner owns intake, prioritization, and Agile facilitation

  • The Technical Lead owns technical direction and architecture

  • Senior Backend Engineers own implementation and execution

  • The TPM (if present) supports delivery tracking and coordination

  • All roles collaborate to ensure work is ready, feasible, and delivered effectively

  • AWS Glue

  • PySpark

  • AWS DMS

  • Streaming and batch data pipelines
